The Town of Paris dedicated Wisconsin’s first Civil War memorial in the spring of 1866. Made of white granite and in the shape of a pillar, the names of 28 soldiers were inscribed on the four sides of the memorial base. The memorial was placed at the Old Towne Hall at what is now the intersection of Highways 45 and 142. In 1935, names of World War I soldiers were added. In 2005 the monument was moved to its present location at the Town of Paris Safety Building on Burlington Road.
